Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake that lies on the Eastern edge of Great Rift Valley at an elevation of 1884 meters above sea level; Lake Naivasha is the highest lake within the Great Rift Valley. With a surface area of 139km2 Lake Naivasha dominates the landscape and is surrounded by swamp which covers 64km2 and is also covered by forests of the fever trees. Lake Naivasha is famous for its high population of hippos and flamingos. There are over 1500 hippos in the area and you are almost guaranteed to see one. The Lake is a birders paradise as its home to over 400 bird species. Lesser and greater flamingos flock to the lake forming a wash of bright pink across the lake’s surface. Giraffes, Zebras, Waterbucks and impalas can be sighted in the immediate vicinity of Lake Naivasha; around Crescent Island, Crater Lake Game Sanctuary and Longonot National Park. Lucky adventurers may even glimpse a leopard. Lake Naivasha is also Home to Hells Gate National Park that is endowed with beautiful Volcanic landscapes and Sceneries. Hells Gate National Park also inspired the Animation and production of the famous movie “THE LION KING” Produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Buena Vista Pictures Distribution under the Walt Disney Pictures Banner the original version…. Enjoy boating, fishing and bird watching on the tranquil waters of Lake Naivasha. Visitors can also explore Hell’s Gate National Park for hiking, rock climbing and game viewing or visit Crescent Island for a unique walking safari.
